Maybe try backports?
Just for the heck of it, can you please provide the output of:
$ sudo iwlist scan
and
$ ifconfig

NoOP,
I found an either net cable, and rearranged things to get the laptop
wired up to the router. Then did a complete update. A quick test of the
wireless still doesn't work. I've started a download of the alternate
installer 64 bit, and plan on giving that a try later.
Thanks,
Mark

Sorry to the list for not trimming in this instance.
Young,
What that all shows is that your wireless *is* working otherwise you
wouldn't be able to scan all of those networks around you. Is
'ESSID:"SqwatTall"' your wireless network?

Yes, and I think you're correct.

You need to go to Network Manager & set up wlan0. Sorry, I use wicd, so
someone else will have to help you configure in NM.

Time for some more googling.
