May I humbly suggest you raise this on the Kubuntu-users list?<br>

Most of which you describe is usual for the new KDE 4.x, but not the<br>
reversion to the CLI log-in.  The guys there have much more expertise<br>
with the new KDE desktop that I suggest you'll find here, and can<br>
probably help you more.<br>
