Have you upgraded the BIOS? Have you tried using the Ubuntu 8.10 Alternate CD? I know you want a server, but it's just to be sure everything goes ok using Ubuntu 8.10 with an alternate install Did you checked you MD5 checksum? Would it be possible to run a memtest? If you are trying to setup a server, my personal opinion will be to use Ubuntu 8.04 LTS(Long Term Support) I have an Asus and an ECS motherboards using the same or similar configuration as yours and never had that issue(of course I have upgraded the BIOS to the latest version in all of them) and used external graphics card(PCI-e) on one of them. Mine are: 4x2GB Kingston RAM 667 & 800Mhz AMD Athlon 64 x2 4800+ & 5500+ ECS A770M-A & Asus M2N-VM HDMI using Ubuntu 8.04 Server & CentOS 5.2 Hope it helps. -- "It is human nature to think wisely and act in an absurd fashion."
