Actually, probably many many things are happening when you do this... but you aren't seeing them. Maybe because you aren't looking for, or expecting the right thing. First things first... what do you want to do with that phone? They tend to do many things when plugged into a USB port... So try this first : In a terminal window, type : <tt>tail -f /var/adm/messages</tt> Type [ENTER] a few times in the window to get a few blanc lines to separate what happens. Then plug your USB device. If it did, it would have mounted the drive and you would have seen an icon on the screen. Since this is a modem, you can try installing a software like "minicom" (it's in the repositories) and connect to your phone... Set speed to 38400 bps, and words to 7E1... and your serial port to /dev/ttyACM0 then when you connect, you should be able to type <tt>ATZ</tt> [ENTER] and get an <tt>OK</tt> prompt. If you type <tt>ATI</tt> [ENTER] it will give you the model of your phone (mine gives <tt>Sony Ericsson Z520</tt>) Again, your post didn't say what you were trying to achieve. The instructions I give will at least enable you to verify that the phone talks to the USB on your Ubuntu machine.
