Hi!
OK... yesterday there was a power failure due to a storm... so I decided
to sit in front of the ubuntu server and watch if everything was OK. I
noticed that by default, the power management recognizes the
USB-attached UPS... and gives me indications as to what the UPS power
level is... And in the settings, I can configure it so that it shuts
down when UPS power level is beyond a certain point (LOW or CRITICAL).
Well... this doesn't happen. It doesn't trigger its own shutdown. But
the power status applet dies...
Bug? Did I miss something?

I've got two APC UPSes, a Back-UPS 650 ES and a 725, both attach with
USB. I had the same problem and eventually looked up "apcupsd",
installed and configured it and now everything works fine.
"nut" is another alternative, I've used that to talk to another
serial-attached Belkin UPS.

Yep. APCUPSD does the trick... but I would have prefered not having to
add anything else. Then again, I like the monitoring features of
apcupsd. :)
