So far, the only way to be able to work in Gnome is to start with runlevel 3 and then go to startx. If I do that, I have no problems with Gnome at all. Then right click news.gmane.org and subscribe to gmane.linux.ubuntu.user. That will show you threads all the way back to 2007 and you can easily see all replies in the thread. You can also use it to post, just reply via the newsreader, gmane will send you a confirmation email, hit reply to the email and it will authenticate & post your reply. That way you don't have to worry about list emails cluttering up your inbox.
