<p>Try to do the following:</p>
<p> - get a winxp installation cd (a bootable one);</p>
<p> - boot from it (set your cdrom as the first boot device in the BIOS; and if you're asked to press any key to boot from the cd - do it);</p>
<p> - boot into the xp Recovery Console (press the <R> key when asked);</p>
<p> - if the Recovery Console finds you xp installation - select it (<1>, <2> ... keys);</p>
<p> - enter your admin xp password;</p>
<p> - issue the following commands and confirm their execution:</p>
<p> fixmbr</p>
<p> fixboot</p>
<p> (the first one fixes the boot code into the MBR, the last one - into the xp partition BR)</p>
<p> - execute exit command to unmount any mounted partition(s) and reboot:</p>
<p> exit</p>

<p>If you're lucky and linux installation didn't change the activity of your xp system partition and it's not destroyed the pc will boot into xp. Then you can use the xp Disk Manager to delete linux partition(s).</p>
<p><br></p>
<p>Anyway if the xp sys partition activity flag had been reset you can set it back the following way:</p>
<p> - boot from an ubuntu live cd into live ubuntu; </p>
<p> - start System | Administration | Partition Editor;</p>
<p> - right click your xp system partition (a pink(?) one (ntfs) probably) and select Manage Flags;</p>
<p> - check if the Boot flag is set in the dialog.</p>

<p>For dual-boot configuration you may try the wubi-installer (let ubuntu live cd to autorun in xp); it installs ubuntu on an existing xp partition...</p>

<p>P. S. Make a complete backup of your system/user data prior to any serious changes (use drive imaging software).</p>
