Thanks for the info! I ran the sudo apt get install grandr and it seemed to install it, but I could not find a menu item for it so I reinstalled using Synaptic Package Manager (sounds like some sort of brain function!) and it reinstalled it but I still can't find where in the menus it placed grandr. Did your installation yield a menu item or does one have to run it from terminal?

I have not tried to switch back and forth between external and internal monitor yet. Will let you know how your solution worked.

Gary

On Sun, Jun 1, 2008 at 1:07 PM, Kilian Rambach <kilian.rambach@gmx.net> wrote:
Great that it works :-)

xrandr --output LVDS --auto should turn your internal monitor on again.
So you need not to restart your computer.
(type "man xrandr" to see all the options and explanations for it)

a gui for xrandr is for example grandr.

"sudo apt-get install grandr" to install it, or use the graphical
package manager.
