I think that's because your internal monitor is your "primary" monitor.<br>
If you turn that monitor off, e.g. using xrandr --output<br>
"yourInternalMonitor" --off, you should see the video on your external<br>
monitor. (type xrandr -q to see the names of your connected monitors).<br>
This works only if randr is supported in your system.<br>
<br>
To change it, that your external monitor is permanently you primary<br>
monitor, you have to modify your xorg.conf. To get a graphical frontend<br>
for this try "sudo displayconfig" .<br>
