Check for graphics card info. Hardy beta listed as as having problems with i845 graphics card, which is standard Dell board for my E772C. Mine was running a generic driver. I used GUI Xserver Xorg to change driver to i815 and back up. I will hunt down i915 driver soon. Hope this helps. See here: <https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RenameUSBDrive> And about the error message you mentioned in the other mail: I gave my USB stick the same label you had, but it was mounted without error (using Kubuntu 8.04). Maybe it is a problem with 7.10. I suppose that would be the lower case letters then. If I give my USB stick a label using Windows, it is all upper case although it is displayed as mixed upper/lower case. Try to rename the partition to LD142EXT3 instead of LD142ext3 and check if the error message persists. It is developed by Pentaho, and was made available in OpenOffice.org through an agreement Pentaho made with Sun over a year ago with OpenOffice.org 2.3 (you can read about this agreement on the Pentaho website). My laptop is a fujitsu lifebook s6410 and my second display is a samsung 2032mw. The screen resolution program only gives me a max resolution of 1280*1024 while i should be able to do 1680x1050. You may safely ignore the chapter about hardware ;-) The chapters about configuring specific software usually could give you some basic idea what's it about, but you should cponsult the software's docs to do the real work. On most systems lpr and lilo are replaced by CUPS and grub, so you may ignore that chapters. uucp is hardly used any more. In the chapters about the kernel and X some important modern things are missing (like udev, 3D graphics support).
