Actually, that's simply because Hardy uses the new GVFS rather than Gnome-VFS, and GVFS provides functionality for representing Red Book CDs as collections of WAV files, when, in fact, Red Book CDs contain neither files nor WAV-contained audio. It's just a more convenient representation that was added when GVFS was implemented.
