<pre wrap="">You could put them somewhere below /usr/share/fonts/truetype or in
~/.fonts. But please keep in mind that the fonts placed in ~/.fonts are
unusable for other users...

The other thing to do is refresh the font cache when this is done - sudo
fc-cache -f -v
I've noticed that some fonts are instantly accessible - others are not.
YMMV.

<pre wrap="">Hi Johan & Rich
Thanks for your feedback and the hints !
@Johan:
Well, it's only my personal notebook and I wouldn't restrict the/this
font to me only ;-)
So /usr/shr/fonts/truetype seems the correct location !
Will place it there !!
@Rich:
Cool hint the refresh of the cache ! ;-)
Cheers, svobi

<pre wrap="">Well, I thought I might learn something but!!! I downloaded some tf
fonts into /home/downloads/.fonts and I have done everything I can do
to copy them into the suggested directory but I'm not allowed to paste
them there. Is there a sudo command?

<pre wrap=""><!---->You could either run nautilus in sudo mode:
$ sudo nautilus
or move them sudo style on the command line...
$ sudo mv *.ttf /usr/share/fonts/truetype
