Yeah but what's important is how much CPU time is X using ? Same for Firefox and the next couple of programs. X normally (on my desktop) using about 1.3 %, firefox less than that. The only problem I have ever had was using a specific theme on Icewm. Gkrellm and some of its plugins can also be problems sometimes. My desktop is loaded with programs whereas the laptop is barebones. I use it for writing letters and emails. A new addition to the laptop was Opera but I uninstalled it to see if it was the problem.
