I upgraded ALSA Version installed manually. Now the headphone problem is solved at least. Microphone problem still not solved yet though. I have to double click on it to bring up ALSA mixer and mess with the controls to get it to adjust the sound. I am using speakers but if I turn the volume down on the headphones it turns the volume down globally. I will be interested to hear the solution to your problem.
