I have a couple of problems with this system that I was wondering if an
upgrade might fix. System is a Sony VGN-FJ250 Laptop, 1GB RAM, Intel
IPW2200 Wireless, Pentium M. Most irritating problem, Wireless was
working now has just quit. I can bring p KWiFi Manager and activate
wireless or so it says, but no packets are getting thru from the router
to the Internet. Router settings check out and I am currently connected
using an ethernet cable to the router.
Second problem, DVDRW Drive does not recognise a disk inserted and will
not open disk. Error message here is " /dev/scd0 does not exist."
Strangely, if a disk is in the drive when the machine boots Ubuntu it is
then recognised and can be played, burned etc. Is not /dev/scd0 just a
link to /media/cdrom0?

Any help is appreciated. I was going to upgrade one of these days anyway
and this may provide more motive.

Thank you

Jim

"As always, your mileage may vary."

IMHO, Dapper is still the best Ubuntu release. Edgy was using very very new technology which have not got alot of testing on it's time, (i.e. Avahi, upstart), and Dapper's artwork was waaaay better than Edgy's, IMHO. Same with Hoary compared to Breezy, most people will still prefer Hoary. I heard Feisty+1 would be LTS, I'm looking forward to participate full-time in this release.
