Avidemux can handle vob (DVD format) just fine and is a very powerful video encoder. I've been messing with Thoggen for a few weeks, now. Ripping to oggs IS a good thing; it moves each piece of media to "our" side of the paradigmatic fence :) and the compression's comparable. Googling to understand the "quality" number (between 23 and 64) is still a mystery- you'd think they'd move it to 1-100(%) since they've made everything else simple. But it *does* take a couple of tries to decide just how you want it to come out. It's good software, and easy to use. Enjoy!
