hmmm... Honestly I have never done that...but it does sound interesting...something to try... mostly I just connect thru the terminal and disconnect likewise... The reason I do that is due to the fact that on the first connect attempt the modem never initializes ... It only initializes on the second try. Seems as though wvdial is a bit broken in Dapper and Edgy...works fine in Breezy with the GUI i.e without doing any configs with wvdial if i remember correctly. Even in first configuring the modem with Edgy I have to "sudo wvdialconf" at least three time before it recognizes the modem...but I guess stranger things have happened...hehe.... (pon to make the connection and poff to hang up) These can be issued in a terminal OR you can create icons in your panel to call the commands.
