Thanks for the info. I didn't know that MS Word needed IE to run.
I've used Open Office for about two years, and have installed it on
numerous windows systems for other people. I've just recently been
dual booting with Ubuntu and wanted to test out Wine. MS Word was the
only thing I had around to try.

What programs DO get used a lot under Wine?

I hope some of you have gone thru this with Wine and can offer some help.
I just installed Wine using Add/Remove Programs, on an up to date
version of Ubuntu 6.06 and the 686 kernel.
In the terminal "wine /home/mtyoung/.wine/drive_c/windows/notepad.exe",
starts up notepad which seems to work fine. Same for "wine
/usr/lib/wine/notepad.exe.so".
When I try to install MS Word 2002 from CD with "wine
/media/cdrom0/setup.exe" it starts up okay, but the terminal shows this.

But personally, I'd just use OpenOffice.org Writer instead.

Hi,
I did not install it, since I do not have MS-Word 2002, but from my
experience, in any case, make sure that you have a running ie6 before even
trying to install word. ie6 will provide fonts, dlls and the help system
that word will desperately need.
Personally, I found ies4linux to be the easiest for ie installs.

Furthermore, it could be a good idea to upgrade to the recent wine version.
See http://www.winehq.com/site/download-deb
Good luck!
