<br>I've never used apache (which I presume you're using) but do you not need to send a kill signal to the daemon to tell it to re-read its configuration file? Could be completely wrong however, and the .htaccess file is read for every page-serve, but I'd suspect the overhead would be far too high for that to be the case.
