When I click on a email link in any web page a box titled Thunderbird
User Profile - choose user profile comes up. How can I just get it to
use my already open thuderbird client?

In firefox type <a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="about:config">about:config</a> in the address bar.
Then enter in the find box 'mailto'
Set the value of 'network.protocol-handler.app.mailto' to 'mozilla-thunderbird'
And it should work.
'mozilla-thunderbird' is actually a script that will detect if one is
already open or not.
