You can reinstall eg. grub OR if he really want to give up so easely just put in the windows disk and choise the repair and the boot-loader may be reinstalled. Otherwise just reinstall DSL or a knoppix where you have installed the ubuntu so you can help him more in the future and the mbr-area and a fresh grub will apear.
