I dont know about Maxtor's reputation. I have never had a single
problem with any other brand disk except Maxtor. I stick with WD and SG
for important things and Maxtor for bulk storage because they are so
cheap.<br>

Just my thoughts (stay away from Maxtor).<br>

Thanks everyone for the advice - unfortunately, freezing it didn't
work and the drive refused to spin up. Since opening the case up
would have voided the warranty I just RMA-ed it. Maxtor's reputation
is pretty good so hopefully the replacement will be more reliable.
