I do not have nvidia graphics but did have this problem when doing a minimal install and letting Ubuntu grab what it needed off of the net. I finally gave up and reinstalled using one of the free Ubuntu cds that they will send you.<BR>

Voila! Not a single problem so far.<BR>

This is on an Averatec 3250 notebook with S3/Unichrome graphics.<BR>
