I ended up using only Debian because the x86_64 machine I had (which was
running Ubuntu) died (motherboard died after over 10 years of 24/7 use. All
the machines I have now are ARM (a mix of Raspberry Pis, Banana Pi M64, and
Beaglebone) that generally run Debian (the Banana Pi M64 runs Armbian). At
this point I have no plans to every get an x86_64 machine, (I *might* put a
Turing Pi cluster board in the ATX tower the x86_64 machine lived in, but I
will only have various ARM compute modules on the Turing Pi cluster board.)
(I found that qemu-system-x86 runs quite well on a ARM64 host -- well enough
to compile code.)
