With regard to policies concerning monopolies in the area of operating
systems. Microsoft only rescued Apple in order to get out of the legal
pressure regarding monopolies, but of course continued to work on
undermining everything in this area.
The fact that people are capable of terrible crimes in other areas,
apartheid, holocast etc., is out of all proportion when it comes to
firmware updates that require a Microsoft operating system.
In terms of the thread, the monopolies in the hands of Microsoft are
already the greatest evil of all evils. Beyond operating systems, there
is no cruelty that is not surpassed again and again. Humanity is
unfortunately a disgrace of nature, but this is not related to the OP's
issue.

Replacing an init system that follows a POSIX philosophy with a blob
that is not just an init system and the invention of a Microsoft
employee is already a tough piece that will certainly have cost a lot of
lobbying. The least the monopoly owner could do as a small thank-you to
us, the loyal flock of sheep, would be systemd-firmware-update ;).
