T420 ThinkPad RAM upgrade compatibility question?

Ian, the T420 has 2 slots with 8GB of ram total - 4GB per slot - per
specifications but, as many has said this was supposedly before
16 gb was available. I have a E530 and it did not accept the full
16 and only showed 8gb. To test I removed one and rebooted -
saw the 8gb, shut down, moved to the other slot and tested - same
thing. But I do know this has worked on other units.
