Linux/Ubuntu laptop with no eth/lan port

A real life example might illustrate how it typically works.
I bought a Framework 13, which ships without Ethernet. I later bought an
Ethernet adapter that slides into one of their modular bays. It worked
immediately upon insertion.
Most common hardware will "just work".
