setting up new system - from old one

hi.

have an old centos system.  looking at moving the "stuff" into newer
ubuntu.  newer laptop.  more drive/mem/etc.  the sys will be dev for most
part..

so, need to have a reasonable process to copy/move from old to new.  need
to have process of setting up the drive partitions, backup processes,
updating, etc..

all the good sys admin stuff for a small operation.

all thoughts/comments welcome.
