Uh, this seems to be the root of the problem. Changed

  URIs: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/

to

  URIs: http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/

and problem vanished. Changed back to

  URIs: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/

and problem reappeared...
