Disclaimer: I do not ever touch PHP at all in any way.

All I can offer is how I clean up multiple versions of anything:

1. Open a terminal window with Ctrl+Alt+T
2. Do `sudo -s`
3. Run `synaptic`. If not installed, install it.
4. Search for a keywork to identify the desired app or package.
5. Click the first column header which shows the installation status.
(Installed, pending, not installed etc.) Click repeatedly so that
installed packages show at the top of the list.
6. Hold down Ctrl and tick all the things you want to remove.
7. Right-click one of them and pick Remove.
