Yes, I think so.
Firstly, Tony George of Teejeetech did the first Ubuntu remix to
restore Unity, U-Mix.

He's been at this for a while now.
Secondly, it's just Ubuntu and updates from the Ubuntu repos. It even
calls itself Ubuntu in the GRUB menu. Even if he does disappear, it's
just Xubuntu minus some stuff and a few small extras.
