Sinced thie fan is controlled via GPIO it will indeed be supported by
the kernel, but you will likely havbe to write something yourself to
use and manage it (or find a tool that controls GPIO attached fans) in
userspace...

I once made a snap for pi3/4 (never tested on a pi5 though), take a
look at the fancontrol shellscript in:

https://github.com/ogra1/pi-fancontrol-snap

... to get an impression what is needed
