get back to terminal from "killed app"

Hi All

Really hope someone is up still

I was running do-release-upgrade (22.04>24.04) & watching kaffeine at the same 
time, (upgrade was going to take 7 hours on slow BB)

I lost my mouse pointer and Alt Tab didn't work to change back to terminl to 
check progress, in the end I killed kaffeine, got back my pointer but still 
cant get to the terminal, th escreen still shows the (now killed?) kaffeine

I can get other terminals (CtrlAlt F2-6) 

is there a way to to get back to the running terminal ?
