This seems to accord with the idea that decent BT support is fatally
broken under most Linux.

I shall try it!

Alas my desktop is a Dell XPS with some ghastly built-in BT which fails
to connect almost everything, including Dell's own keyboards and mice.
At next major upgrade I shall have to see if it can be disabled in the BIOS.

I have a HP Envy 17" but it's running an old Mint. Definitely try the
Kubuntu 20.04 from USB if I can.

Nope. I tried Arch, Fedora, and a couple of others. It's not the Linux
per se, I think, but the almost completely useless BT and sound
management packages which are just years behind.

The key seems to be that even if BT recognised the microphone, it is
failing to pass that information to the Sound app, so it never appears.
I did find someone saying that supporting bidirectional dual devices on
the same BT pairing was a new feature several years ago, so perhaps I
just wait.

Fortunately MOC plays all my music (through external speakers) without
breaking sweat :-)

Thank you for all the valuable information.

Let us know!
