Failure installing Ubuntu 24.04 on an USB stick

I've made a new partition table on that stick, with GParted. Looks like that
fixed it. Then it failed again - again in a different way (the freeze I
talked about). I'll wait for that new USB stick which I've ordered, so I can
sort things out.
