symlink persist follow-up

Hi All, who have tried to help

Would have got back sooner but a change to fstab caused (23.10) to stop
booting, (details at end)

I now wonder "if" the problem I'm having is a 23.10 bug

I set a symlink to the Pictures dir on 22.04, I thought it was not surviving
the reboot, but it did ($ ls -l shows it in red)

$ ls Pictures shows "not a file or directory"

also changed it in user-dirs.dirs, added user-dir.config enable=false to stop
it been re-written

trying to change wallpaper did not show contents of Pictures (duh)

BUT

If I click on the 22.04 drive in launcher, then

$ ls -l shows the link in blue,
$ls Pictures shows contents as wished

trying to change wallpaper still does not show contents of Pictures but
clicking "+" brings a listing with Pictures in click that and choose a new
wallpaper works

If I log out and back in againm going to change wallpaper will show Pictures
contents

the 22.04 drive is set to auto mount at system start & show on launcher

is there a step I missed or a way to get that drive "seen" at boot so the link
will work

as an aside I also have my local homepage on the 22.04 drive, waterfox
complains "if" I run it before drive has been acessed, so the same problem??

recover from fstab problem
a couple of tries via recover (drop to root shell) option did not work, I did
manage by booting 22.04 then copy / edit /etc/fstab to 23.10's /etc/fstab
