locate mystery

Off topic maybe?
I use bind mounts to simplify access to some of my directories, among
other things. I have a lot of disks and don't want some of those
directories' accesses to depend on which disk they actually happen to
be mounted on.
One of my directories is /home/saved. It's where I put some things I
want saved outside the usual home directory setup. /home is on its own
hard drive (2TB SSD).
However, the locate command can't seem to see files or directories
located in /home/saved.
This used to be a bind mount to one of my other larger drives, but for
various reasons it no longer is. It's just a normal directory.
Why would locate not be able to find files or directories within that
directory. The permissions are 755 and I haved chowned it to my id and
group users, not root:root.
I'm not asking for suggestions to modify this setup, just why it's not working.
I'm running Xubuntu 22.04.3 LTS.
Thanks in advance.
