I'm as baffled as you are. I got it from GIMP and it caused all sorts
of trouble that's been confirmed, but apparently isn't important
enough to do anything about:

I've been ignoring the notification to install it every day since
last May and am curious how long it will be before they fix it.
There's a work-around, but I'm intentionally leaving the bug as is so
I can see if they actually do anything about it.
