Yes, that's correct and thank you for your reply Colin.

I'll set up another user account, however, I cannot see how that will 
help other than not having to go through the ctl alt f1 rigmarole.

I think the best option is to install Lubuntu because it doesn't use 
XFCE as it's desktop.
