Thanks a lot!!!!

I checked my groups and audio was not one of them.
So I did this on the Ubuntu machine:

sudo usermod -a -G audio <myusername>

Then I started the service after deleting the old logfile:

sudo systemctl start vncserver at 1

Now it created a logfile and stopped logging until I connected a VNC session
when logging commenced again.

After I disconnected from the VNC server the logging stopped as it should!

So clearly this was an item missing in the tutorial I found, I have now added it
into my own notes as the first item to check.

Grateful for your help! :-)
