we used to support the nexus 5, 7 and 10 with the ubuntu phone project
(i personally did the porting to all three devices back then) ... but
we dropped the phone project in 2014 and handed it over to the ubports
community.
looking at https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/ it seems only the nexus 5
is left on the list of supported devices with recent ubports images...
that said, it will very likely use a very old kerel since it needs to
be working wih the proprietary graphics drivers from android and the
mainline kernel will miss the patches required for this.
so while you might be able to get something booting with a lot of
tinkering and learning about the boot process, you will very likely
only be able to run something headless or via the framebuffer driver
which will end up looking more like a slideshow when moving the mouse
pointer... i.e. do not expect this to be usable as a tablet ...
the ubuntu arm userspace should indeed run without issue so you can use
debootstrap to create a rootfs or grab one of the ubuntu-base tarballs
from cdimage.ubuntu.com but unless you are after gaining some academic
knowledge i'd not waste time with it...
ciao
