EFI variables are not supported on this system ERROR while trying to restore grub/uefi on Ubuntu installed 18.04 installed on my disk.

That error message means that you booted the machine in legacy bios
mode, not in EFI mode. You should adjust your firmware settings so
that either it boots in UEFI mode first then in legacy bios mode, or
disable legacy bios mode completely.
My advice would be to then reinstall over the top. If you have any
settings or files in your /home directory, Ubuntu should leave those
alone. However this is also a good reason for keeping your /home in a
different disc partition.
