Well a friend of mine (Alan) and I take in unwanted laptops (typically with
about 1 or 2 GiB) of RAM, put Debian Linux on and Alan teaches people in
public libraries and in sheltered accommodation how to use Debian (or other
small Linuxes) and some people are quite happy with that.

As for T420s taking 16GiB RAM... hearsay tells me that the T420 will take 2
x 8GiB RAM but, officially, only take up to 2 x 4GiB RAM.
