heh, oops, i should have read the full thread before answering above :)

note that if you modify the snap file itself, snapd will refuse to
update it, for a single file change and if you want to keep the app
updating, i'd go with the bind-mount variant ... 

if you have more than one file to change you should rather re-pack but
then need to manually check for updates and re-do your re-packaging for
updates if desired.

also, the source for the hamster snap seems to be at:

https://github.com/extraymond/hamster-snap

you should be able to easily roll a completely local variant of it
using the snapcraft snap and callig the snapcraft command in the
toplevel of a locally cloned source tree ...
