One other comment that may be noteworthy... Apt is Debian's official
package manager. Aptitude is ncurses-based command line front end to
Apt.

It should not matter whether you use Apt, Aptitude or both. However,
in practice, I find Aptitude's safe-upgrade very useful is fixing
"held back" packages. Aptitude can usually get them installed even
when Apt+full-upgrade and fixes work cannot.
