I am not making any decisions for the user.

Quite the opposite.

The user has a wide choice of discretion to make far-ranging decisions.  
Including the ones that will thoroughly mess things up and result in a  
mostly unbootable brick.

I'm just putting in a failsafe to keep the user from making a big mistake.
