cursor setting question

Good afternoon,

I noticed a thread: Strange mouse 'X' cursor.

For YEARS I have wanted to have my cursor be a right_ptr! I am right 
handed but use my mouse with my lefthand(long story)...

Would the referenced xsetroot command allow me to do this:

xsetroot -cursor_name right_ptr (substituting right vs left as indicated)
