Not many responses to this so I thought I'd point out what I documented
for myself when needing to set up a 22.04 headless server connected by
WiFi for a particular purpose....

My research on this might possibly be of use to others....

Perhaps a little off this topic but interestingly I thought, I ended up
using an adaptor with two antennae that connects by a mini USB cable. I
needed something with a little more power as it has to reach through
two walls and a floor. For general tidiness I wanted to use a shorter
cable than the one supplied with the adaptor. It's just another USB
cable, right? Wrong. The adaptor refused to work with the possibly
cheap cables I had kicking around, even though other mini-USB devices
such as a card reader work just fine with the same cables. My favourite
eBay supplier of cables actually gives the specification of the
conductors in the cable, where their mini to type A cable has thicker
copper in the power conductors. Ordered, delivered a couple of days
later, plugged it into the USB3 socket and, yes, that one works.
