I think there are cultural and geographical differences involved too.
Both commercial software and FLOSS are prone to bugs, and both will
sometimes fail to believe the user or fail to listen to them. Most of
what FLOSS does is fine for my circumstances, both professionally and
otherwise, but I use a mix of software where necessary. I also make
contributions to FLOSS because I feel it's important to support the authors.

Certainly a lack of vocabulary and a lack of knowledge about how to
report a bug in a way that will entice the programmer to fix it.

They do indeed. But sometimes they simply have a different agenda, and
making the interface usable is often well down the list below making it
work correctly, which is fair enough.
