ubuntu-22.04 Installer won't let me delete partition?

I was living pretty fine with reformatting DURING install for about three
decades. I don't see why reformatting BEFORE istall would be ANY better.
Anyhow, I am using ubuntu-22.04.2-live-server-amd64.iso. The name suggests, I
could use the "live" mode to run gparted. But don't see any way to bypass the
partitioner.
How did the creators of the new installer mean to run gparted? Download some
other distro to do the partitioning?
This looks really wired to me.
